Project Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility, is a project to engage Buchtel community residents and others in determining the use of the Community Learning Centers (CLCs) in the Buchtel Cluster. A core component of the project will be a series of discussions at each CLC. These discussions will lead to consensus on the activities, programs and services that will support participants' vision of their ideal neighborhood. The series of discussions will run from Fall, 2011 through early Winter, 2012. Then, Research/Action Teams made up of residents and other stakeholders will do the necessary research and planning to implement actions and decide what will be measured to determine success.
Project Ujima is excited to introduce Discussion Circle Thursdays! These events will take place:
- Helen Arnold CLC: 1st Thursday of each month
- Crouse CLC: 2nd Thursday of each month
- Schumacher CLC: 3rd Thursday of each month
- Buchtel CLC: 4th Thursday of each month

By signing up for to participate in one (or more) Research/Action teams, you are exemplifying the spirit of Ujima--working collectively and responsibly--to bring these action priorities to reality at our Buchtel Cluster CLCs!
Research/Action Teams are being formed for each action priority to complete the following work:
Identify what other stakeholders need to be added to the research/action team.
Decide the goals of the service, program or activity (SPA) and what will be measured to determine the progress on those goals.
Inventory the existing services, programs or activities available in the community regarding the action priority and their effectiveness.
Research other models that have an effective track record in providing the SPA.
Determine the costs, (human, financial and logistical) and other considerations that must be addressed in order to implement the SPA.
Research what resources, both human and financial, are available to support the SPA and how to secure the funding, services, and/or in-kind help to support the programming.
Take the steps necessary to implement the SPA at the CLC in the upcoming school year.
